A tea service is a teapot with cups as well as cream and sugar holders. The entire service is usually carried in on a tray for serving groups of two or more people. Although they were considered relatively formal by 1967, they can also be used for informal gatherings. Although it is intended for tea, some people may use them for coffee.

Elizabeth Collins Stoddard owned a silver tea service, which she used when she wanted an excuse to leave people alone in the room (8), or to get someone out of the room. One of her favorite teacups was broken by her nephew, David Collins (9, 10), and another by Victoria Winters (15).
