Paul Stoddard
From The Dark Shadows Wiki
Paul Stoddard was the deadbeat husband of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and father to Carolyn Stoddard.
Paul married into the wealthy Collins family and lived at Collinwood with his wife Elizabeth. He once commissioned Sam Evans to paint a portrait of him in the style and size of the Jeremiah painting hanging above the Collinwood mantle. The portrait was never begun, despite a few preliminary sketches by Sam (42).
In 1949, Paul walked out on Elizabeth, six months before his daughter Carolyn was born. Elizabeth remained on the Collinwood grounds for eighteen years, in theory waiting for him to return (5). In fact she believed she had murdered him.
- In later episodes, Paul left after Carolyn was born. Elizabeth makes references to how he ignored Carolyn.
In 1970, Paul did return however. He also learned at that time that a pact he had made for wealth with beings he now knew to be demons was coming due--and the payment for his good fortune was to be Carolyn. Attempting to stop this plot, he was killed.
