George Patterson was the local Sheriff of Collinsport, Maine in the late 1960s. His predecessor in the job was Constable Jonas Carter. Patterson was a long-time friend of Elizabeth Stoddard and always did his best to protect the Collins family from embarrassment, owing to that friendship. He was succeeded at some point in 1969 by Sheriff Davenport.
The cases that Sheriff Patterson investigated include Bill Malloy's murder and Victoria Winters' kidnapping in 1967, Maggie Evans' abduction in 1967, Carolyn Stoddard's disappearance and Joe Haskell's assault in 1968, and a werewolf attack in 1969.
He's returned to the role of Sheriff by the time of the audio drama Curse of the Pharaoh, presumably after the death of Sheriff Davenport. After his death, Patterson is succeeded as Sheriff by his deputy, Jim Hardy.
