Barnabas prepares to destroy Tom with silver bullets.
Synopsis[]
- On this night, the great house of Collinwood is serene, but beyond it, in the Old House on the great estate, one man is about to make a terrifying discovery, one which will change the course of his life and place him in greater danger than he has ever known.
Barnabas explains to Jeff his reasons for creating a mate for Adam; Roger tells Barnabas he needs to see Julia because Elizabeth has escaped. Barnabas fills Julia in on Jeff's break-in. Julia wonders if she can make it through another night.
Jeff agrees to help with the experiment to protect people; his skills are useful. Barnabas stays with Julia, who becomes frightened as the sun sets. Tom comes to Julia, who protects him from Barnabas. Tom vanishes; Barnabas goes to the window and while he’s looking for Jennings, Julia escapes.
Memorable quotes[]
- Jeff: I can't do these things.

- Louis Edmonds as Roger Collins
- Grayson Hall as Julia Hoffman
- Roger Davis as Jeff Clark
- Don Briscoe as Tom Jennings
Background information and notes[]
Production[]
- A dark green vertical band can be seen on the left of the screen affecting one camera.
- Actor David Selby has noted over the years how the show was being made during such a difficult time in the history of the United States. On the night this episode aired, protesters at the 1968 Democratic National Convention marched towards the Hilton Hotel in Chicago. The Illinois National Guard used tear gas, and members of the Chicago Police beat and arrested many of the protestors. Television networks interspersed coverage of the actual convention with the protests and aired it to a shocked nation.
Story[]
- Elizabeth is revealed to have escaped from Windcliff Sanitarium. She will be seen at Collinwood in the next episode.
- INTERNAL MONOLOGUE: Jeff: Lang's equipment at the Old House (reprised from previous episode) / Victoria must never find out; Julia: Morning; Tom: Summoning Julia.
- TIMELINE: Day 231 begins, and will end in 569. Elizabeth escaped from Windcliff last night. Jeff went into the Old House cellar last night. 5pm: Julia and Barnabas in Old House cellar.
Bloopers and continuity errors[]
- A boom microphone shadow is seen in the Old House cellar crossing over and down the sheet covering the figure of Adam's mate to be.
- In Act I, when Barnabas is telling Jeff he needs their help and as Barnabas picks up one of Lang's journals, there is a loud off-stage noise.
- In Act I, Jonathan Frid comes in with his line too early ("Do you think...?") while Jeff is still talking about going to Collinwood and taking Vicki away.
- In the previous episode, Barnabas vowed to find and destroy Tom Jennings that night, but this episode moves fairly quickly to the next morning, and there is no indication that Barnabas made any effort to do so.
- In Act III, when Jeff comes down the stairs to the Old House cellar and Barnabas asks if he's come to a decision, there is a loud off-stage noise, sounding like a heavy door slamming. There is another loud off-stage noise when Barnabas is telling Julia about having silver bullets forged.
- In Act IV, when Julia tries to run from Josette's room and Barnabas restrains her, the picture goes out of focus, and the camera has difficulty refocusing.
- At the end of the episode, when Barnabas runs out of Josette's room after Julia, we see that Jonathan Frid actually stops with his hand on the door frame as the scene fades out.
