Nicholas uses Victoria to lead him to the tree in the woods where Reverend Trask performed the exorcism on Cassandra; he then attempts to bring her back.
Synopsis[]
- Darkness has descended over Collinwood, and most of the residents of the great house are asleep. For them, sleep is peaceful. But elsewhere in the Evans cottage, there is one who sleeps but knows no peace, for he is having a terrifying nightmare, a nightmare which may end in a death.
Jeff dreams of the past, where he is Peter Bradford, confronting Nathan Forbes. When Joe awakens him, he attacks him, thinking he was Forbes. Joe is disturbed by the incident, but the dream convinces Jeff that he is Bradford.
Nicholas attempts to communicate with Angelique via the painting, and reveals that he must find her ashes if he is to restore her to life. Victoria discovers him with the painting and informs him that it belongs to her. She is disturbed by its faded appearance, and Nicholas offers to have it restored. Victoria refuses, claiming she likes it the way it is. He then asks to borrow it for the night, as it resembles his sister. She admits the resemblance is striking, but refuses to let him have it.
Nicholas' spell sends Victoria out into the woods to the tree Trask used for her exorcism, which is the same one Trask used for Cassandra's exorcism. He attempts to restore Cassandra's ashes to life.

- There is a tape edit during the scene with Nicholas and Victoria in the drawing room with Angelique's portrait. The video jumps a moment, and Victoria is standing at the door waiting as though Nicholas had said something to her to make her turn around, and then he says, "No, never mind."
Story[]
- DREAM SEQUENCE: Jeff dreams about attempting to kill Nathan Forbes in 1796 (reprised from previous episode).
- INTERNAL MONOLOGUE: Jeff: I knew Forbes! I know who I am!
- TIMELINE: The narration mentions that most of the residents of Collinwood are asleep.
Bloopers and continuity errors[]
- At the beginning of the teaser, it sounds as if someone is whispering to Alexandra Moltke as she starts her narration, and then possibly a short laugh is heard.
- Jeff's acceptance of his identity as Peter Bradford seems rather sudden and unconvincing. Although his memory of Forbes is significant, Jeff has been adamant--even violently so--that he is not Peter Bradford, even when other evidence has suggested the contrary.
- When Nicholas tells Roger he will stay downstairs and finish his brandy, there is a thumping sound from off-stage.
- It would appear writer Ron Sproat forgot that the tree that was used by Reverend Trask for the exorcism of Victoria in 386 was destroyed by a fire set by Angelique. The burnt tree was then used by Trask as proof that Victoria was the witch. However, as this tree was used for an exorcism earlier, it would have a supernatural ability to regrow itself and be used again. [And even if it weren't supernatural, the tree could have easily regrown over the course of 175 years.]
- In Act IV, when Nicholas is questioning Victoria about the tree, Humbert Allen Astredo flubs a line: "You were tired [rather than "tied"] by Trask here?"
- At the tree, when Nicholas begins invoking Angelique, a figure moves behind the trees behind him. It is likely Vicki, so even if Alexandra Moltke was not meant to be seen leaving the set, one could easily argue that it is Vicki returning to Collinwood.
- When Nicholas says "restore you to life," a shadow, which looks like that of a person, moves across him at the bottom right corner of the screen.
