A dream sequence is a storytelling device frequently used throughout the original series. Commonly, it's purpose is to shed light on the psychical process of the dreaming character or give the audience a glimpse into the character's state of mind, or to act as a prophecy of events that have yet to occur. A storyline known as the dream curse, involved a dream which caused terror in the dreamer until they passed it on to another by recounting it to them. The terror of the dream increased until it reached its final intended victim.
