The Destruction of Collinwood in 1970 was an event that Barnabas Collins and Julia Hoffman learned about in 1995. When they traveled back to 1970 they failed to stop it, but got a second chance when they fled the destruction and landed in 1840.

The destruction of Collinwood had it's roots in 1840, when Gerard Stiles became possessed by the Warlock, Judah Zachary. Through trickery and deceit he arranged to have Quentin Collins disinherited and became the Master of Collinwood, in trust, until Quentin's son, Tad Collins reached his majority. Gerard/Judah also caused the deaths of many members of the family and added Daphne Harridge to his coven. It is not known how he died, but Daphne later returned to haunt Collinwood in 1970, on a mission to bring herself, Tad Collins, Carrie Stokes and Gerard back to life.

When Barnabas found the body of Carolyn Stoddard Hawkes, she had just finished a note which detailed six events that occurred before the event (1069). They were:

The Night of The Sun and The Moon.

The night Rose Cottage was destroyed

The unfinished horoscope

The night I sang my song
