Dark Shadows was filmed live on videotape without second takes. That meant that the cast and crew had to be prepared to forge on, no matter what may come. The shadow of the boom microphone could frequently be seen as characters and cameras moved within a scene. Sometimes even the boom microphone itself could be seen, occasionally with the hand or arm of a crew member. Re-doing the scenes would have been time-consuming and costly for the studio, so they were aired as is.
