Angelique Bouchard grew up with Josette Du Pres on the Island of Martinique where she was Josettes maid. Angeliques mother was an obeah high priestess of vodoo and Angelique at sometime in her early life learned vodoo from her mother. While Barnabas was visiting the Du Pres family, Josette went to France leaving him with her maid the beautiful young Angelique. Barnabas and Angelique had a secret and passoinate love affair. When Barnabas returns to America he regrets his affair with Angelique and plans to marry Josette Du Pres. Angelique Bouchard and her mistress Countess Natalie Du Pres arrive to prepare for the wedding, Angelique still in love with Barnabas, insist on continuing there love affair and also insist that he not marry Josette, Barnabas refuses her so Angelique uses vodoo and witch craft to cause Barnabas brother Jerimiah Collins and Josette Du Pres to fall in love. Angelique then with the watchful eyes and ears of her slave Ben loomis, uses an incantation to cause Barnabas to accidentaly murder Jerimiah in a dual over Josette, which enrages Josette and drives her and Banrabas apart almost forever. Barnabas realizing that Josette now hates him, still rejects Angeliques advances which furthers angers Angelique, she decides to destroy Josette after Barnabas informs her that He still loves Josette. Angelique resurrects Jerimiah as a zombie and controls him telepathicaly. The zombie Jeremiah under the control of Angelique kidnaps Josette and almost throws her from widows hill, before he does so he mentions that Angelique is evil and he then breaks free from her control and hurls himself from widows hill. Barnabas then finds evidenca that Angelique is a witch in her room and when he confronts her she attacks him and during the attack she falls upon her knife and dies, but before she dies she places a curse on Barnabas for all eternity.
