Elizabeth Knocking Paul Stoddard unconscious in 1949
The year 1949 (MCMXLIX) was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar. During this year many things happened in Collinsport and at Collinwood that would effect the future Collins Family.
- Elizabeth Collins Stoddard discovered her husband, Paul Stoddard, in the act of stealing a large sum of cash from her in order to leave Collinwood. She hit him over the head with a fire poker and knocked him unconscious. His friend, Jason McGuire told Elizabeth she killed Paul and pretended to bury him in the basement (271). Paul and Jason later left Collinwood/Collinsport, but not together. Paul later claimed that Jason blackmailed him into keeping all the money (899).
- Paul Stoddard unknowingly makes a deal with Mr. Strak, an agent of The Leviathans for good fortune for 20 years in exchange for the thing which is most valuable to him (899/900).
- Elizabeth Collins Stoddard fires all the servants at Collinwood except for Matthew Morgan who remains as caretaker living in The Cottage. Elizabeth refuses to leave the house supposedly waiting for Paul to return. Before this Mathew's job was sweeping the floors of the Collins Fishing Fleet and Cannery (6).
