Victoria plans a vacation, which is interrupted by her kidnapping by the on-the-lam Matthew

Synopsis[]

My name is Victoria Winters. I came to this house with the hope of finding out about my past life. Instead my life was nearly taken away from me. And the man who tried to kill me is hiding in the one place no one would think to look. And he's being protected by one who does not suspect his treachery.

Matthew frightens David, who puts on his brave face. David tells Matthew he knows all the secrets about the Old House and Collinwood, hence he'll keep Matthew's.

Victoria is going to Bangor to spend time with Frank and away from Collinwood for the weekend. She is told not to look to the past by Elizabeth, who also wants to forget hers. Victoria goes to get David while waiting for her bus.

David posits that Matthew can reside at the Old House for one year. Matthew came back from Coldwater to hide at the Old House, because it has something that will allow him to never to be found... something David doesn't even know about.

Victoria finds David at the Old House and tries to get him to come back to Collinwood before it gets dark. She somehow manages to drop her wallet on the floor.

Elizabeth calls the Sheriff and learns there's nothing new. She forces David to apologize to Victoria for having to fetch him again. Victoria notices her wallet is missing as she is about to leave. She must have lost it while climbing over an old fence, a shortcut between the houses, posits David. Elizabeth lectures David about loyalty and says that family comes first. David wants to be loyal to somebody else before Roger.

Victoria searches fruitlessly by the old fence.

David won't reveal to Elizabeth to whom he's loyal. Elizabeth tells him that loyalees don't keep secrets from each other.

Victoria's search for her wallet freely gives Matthew an opportunity to recapture her.

Memorable quotes[]

Matthew: It's the suddenness that frightens...the unexpected...the feeling that you don't know what's gonna happen next.

Matthew: Play dumb. It's a great game. You can pull a lot of wool that way, play tricks on everyone, everybody. That way you get a chance to have the last laugh, and the last one's the best one.

Victoria: Right now I am very confused and mixed up.

Dramatis personae[]

Background information and notes[]

Production[]

Story[]

Bloopers and continuity errors[]

  • David Henesy (or possibly Thayer David) seems to have flubbed his lines as these lines don't follow from each other: Matthew: You're a sly one. David: I'm a lot...I'm too smart to let that happen."
  • When Victoria and David return to Collinwood, actor David Henesy closes the double doors behind him, but they don't close all the way and he has to do it a second time.
  • The location footage of Victoria leaving Collinwood is reused, creating a minor error as it shows her wearing a scarf on her head, yet in the previous scene and subsequent one she's not wearing it at all.
  • The musical stinger at the end of the episode repeats the last note.

End credits announcements[]

  • Inspector Erskine tracks down a Communist agent, unaware that he has been infested with radioactivity. Don't miss "The Contaminator" on "The FBI," Sunday night on ABC.
  • Dark Shadows is a Dan Curtis Production.
